Abstract

Chapter 9 relates two models for combining observations to performance data on multiple-observer teams, and repeated stimulus presentations. Also considered are detection tasks with varying degrees of temporal structure. In chapter 10, data on multiple-component signals and on signals of uncertain frequency are used to define further the concept of the "critical band" in auditory frequency analysis. Chapter 11 shows how many of the ideas and procedures of detection theory can be applied to speech recognition. Chapter 12 reviews preliminary applications of the theory to a variety of substantive problems that border on psychophysics, including sensory physiology, animal discrimination learning, reaction time, attention, and recognition memory.
