Abstract

Managing traffic management. Traffic management is predominantly geared towards the real-time accommodation of traffic flows in a network. Practice shows that the realisation of strategic investments in network capacity advances with much difficulty. Therefore high hopes are put on the traffic management approach. However, the successful application of traffic management measures is not guaranteed from the very start. In this paper four issues will be presented that play a crucial role in the successful application of traffic management measures in a network. These four issues are: congestion prevention; who is controlling the traffic; urgency of the situation; network structure and the need for coordination. (Author/publisher)
