Abstract

This paper reviews the present state of knowledge regarding traffic control of intersections operating in saturated conditions. Various models of oversaturated intersections are reviewed. Practical measures are derived from these models. It is proposed that these, measures should be evaluated for implementation on isolated microprocessor traffic controllers. It is suggested that the capability of microprocessor based dynamic controllers has not yet been fully exploited in controlling traffic congestion.
