As door-to-door research into public transport is becoming increasingly popular, the mode transfer issue presents itself as a major research topic. In order to investigate the influence of transfer on the travel time of regional public transport in the region of Utrecht, this study uses the results of a survey of peoples' attitudes to switching their mode of travel from cars to regional public transport in that area. The results show that putting a strict time constraint on the mode transfer time does not influence substantially the travel time of regional public transport. Therefore, the main problem of the transfer is suggested to be caused by the low quality regional public transport service at stopping places.
