Abstract

A series of seven controlled field experiments were conducted to identify the visual and situational factors underlying driver decisions and actions in overtaking and passing are described in detail and the results and implications of these experiments are presented. The first phase of the proposal concerned overtaking a leading vehicle where passing was not permitted. The second involved the flying vehicle.
