Abstract

The European Commission is the world’s largest grant maker (donor). With an approximate budget of EUR 100 billion, it carries out the main functions of promoting the development (economic and social) and cohesion of the European Union as a whole. By pursuing these objectives, the European Commission finances activities ranging from scientific research in all areas of knowledge, to development of infrastructures and even promotion of market analysis and business implementation of those products and services that may help achieve the policies settled by the Europeans. Any initiative of European relevance can always be linked to one or several of its programmes and funding lines. The availability of funding lines and programmes is usually an area of knowledge reserved to few interest groups with a relevant presence in Brussels. Organisations from outside this framework usually find great difficultness in reaching a single entry point to all available funding possibilities. On the contrary, they face a difficult situation in which all funding relevant information is scattered across different sources. The present document aims at providing an overview of the different funding opportunities in the European Union for those organisations in the road transport sector, be it for infrastructure development and enlargement, research on better products, international pan European market analysis, or any other type of road transport related project with a European dimension.
