Abstract

An overview of main technical features used in current expert system technology is given, explaining for example the main terminology used in this field. Examples are used extensively to clarify the explanations. The emphasis is in architectural aspects of expert systems, that are examined from various viewpoints, but the current general status and future prospects for expert system technology are treated briefly as well. Also tools for building expert systems are briefly described, and comparison with conventional computing technology is provided.
