Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the current status of Canadian progress in the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies, the establishment of mechanisms for the planning and coordination of ITS activities across Canada, and the likely medium term scenarios for development of systems on a national basis. The perspective taken is that of the federal Department of Transport (Transport Canada) and covers both federal government projects and cooperative initiatives with a variety of other government and industry partners. The latest research results and progress on full-scale operational installations are described. (A)
