Abstract

Atmospheric pollutant emissions in France from road traffic are overviewed with regard to various issues: emissions trends from 1960 to 2020 for different vehicle types, relative contributions of road traffic in total emissions, speciation of volatile organic compounds, size of exhaust particulate matter. Finally, road traffic contribution is assessed with regard to global atmospheric pollution (greenhouse effect), to acidification phenomena (regional scale), to photochemical phenomena (local scale) and to geographical discrepancy.
