Abstract

Victoria police started to trial speed cameras in December 1989 and in April 1990 the current speed camera program in Victoria was launched. Operational data from the initiative were made available to monitor the changes in police operations as the initiative evolved. This report gives details of these figures and the trends that they reflect in the areas of: law enforcement operations; numbers of vehicles checked; proportion of speeding vehicles; use of cameras according to day of the week, speed limit zone and geographic region.
