Abstract

We are looking at all aspects of motorcycle use in London. The Mayor's Transport Strategy recognises that motorcycles take up little space and are relatively low cost, but also notes the high number of collisions and injuries involving motorcycles and riders. We set-up the London Motorcycle Working Group and it includes representatives from TfL, the Department for Transport, the Association of London Government, the Metropolitan and City Police and motorcycle lobby groups. The group aims to improve motorcycle safety in London. A key issue being considered is the possibility of allowing motorcycles to use bus lanes. There are concerns however, over the safety of other vulnerable road users including cyclists, who are allowed to use bus lanes at present and on the impact on bus services. (Author/publisher)
