This pamphlet from the IIHS adresses safe travel for children in vehicles with passenger air bags - important because, while air bags save lives and prevent serious injuries, they're also causing some injuries. There are some deaths, which occur when people get in the path of an air bag early in inflation. Infants in rear-facing restraints and unbelted or improperly belted children in the front seats of vehicles with passenger bags are among those at risk of serious air bag inflation injuries. Because children are lighter than adults, their risk is greater. Younger people need special restraints, and this publication sets out simple precautions to ensure optimum protection for everybody.
