The international conference on the bearing capacity of roads and airfields (BCRA) has been arranged every four years since the first conference was held in Trondheim, Norway in 1982. The following conferences were held in Plymouth, England (1986), Trondheim, Norway (1990) and in Minneapolis, USA (1994). The 1998 conference will again be brought back to Norway. The conference sessions have mainly been concentrated on bearing capacity concepts, measurement methods and interpretation of bearing capacity measurements. In the 1994 conference in Minneapolis, USA, 109 papers were presented. Seven papers were presented with authors or co-authors from the Public Roads Administration in Norway. These papers are presented in this publication.
