Abstract

Paradise by the dashboardlight: sustainability in freight transport The next few years the transport of goods will increase considerably. At the same time not only pressure from governmental bodies will mount, but also pressure from the major stakeholders from within the surroundings of companies: environment-conscious customers, supplying and buying companies, banks, investment funds, trade unions and special interest groups. The market demands high-quality and safe products and services; social and ecological sound products, services and manufacturing methods. The same market also issues a "license to operate": companies must provide a contribution to society by means of economically, socially and environmental-friendly additional value. Increasingly society's interests and desires will determine the agenda of freight transport. Entrepreneurs are well aware of these demands. Therefore in the business of transport there seems to be enough momentum and the necessity for corporate responsible entrepreneurship is felt. Corporate responsibility is here to stay. To realise the vision of the future in 2020, as formulated in this paper, we must make the most of the opportunities. DGG wants to fulfil a stimulating and facilitating role (Author/publisher)
