Abstract

A model is being developed for the assessment of inter-city transport systems. All the relevant characteristics of new or existing systems, the routes over which they might operate and the travellers who might use them are represented by parameters. These parameters are used as inputs to a computer which calculates the numbers of passengers likely to use each system, corresponding system costs and revenues and other quantities required for economic assessment. The model will facilitate rapid assessment of a transport system over a range of possible routes, varying in length and overall traffic levels, and also assessment of possible changes in the transport systems serving an existing route or network of routes.
