Abstract

In parametric optimization of the cushion shape of passenger side airbag that has three-dimensional and vehicle interior parts dependent shape, it is very important to define the design variables in order to make the ranges of variables, and to set up the design process. The considerations of cushion design of mid-mounted passenger airbag are presented in this paper. Considered design variables are size, width of cushion, location, width, the number of tether, and size of vent hole. By using orthogonal array, in-position NCAP simulation is performed within the ranges of given control levels. Also, the relationships among design variables are analyzed in order to help the design of the airbag cushion.
