Abstract

This publication presents six reports as well as a summary of the Round Table debate on the papers. The 1st paper, Introductory Report, attempts to give a general picture and provide a conceptual framework. The 2nd paper describes examples and special aspects of ways in which taxis may be integrated with the public transport system. The 3rd paper describes the genesis, objectives, characteristics, finances, and operation of dial-a-ride in Great Britain. The 4th paper describes the dolmus (a motor vehicle carrying passengers on a tariff basis per person with a maximum capacity of 7 besides the driver), a form of paratransit first introduced in Istanbul and now the most common form of public transit in the major metropolitan areas of Turkey. The 5th paper describes carpools as a way of utilizing reserves of urban passenger transport capacity. The sixth paper describes transport services provided by employers in France.
