Abstract

Radio is an essential tool in safety missions and for motorway operating companies. Since 2003, the Paris-Rhine-Rhone motorways deploy a numerical radio operator network conforming to TETRA standards. This is the widest network in Europe, outside of national networks such as ASTRID in Belgium or the Finnish public authority network. The operator's communication needsand the ways in which TETRA meets them are explained. The technology is described together with its deployment (infrastructure and terminals). For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
