Abstract

The following article outlines the infra-structural and organisational measures taken to meet the goal of a quick, safe, and well-informed trip to the World Exposition site for visitors to the EXPO. In particular, ticketing as an instrument of traffic management is discussed. The discrepancy between planning parameters and real facts is analysed. Furthermore, the paper describes the successive adaptation of the ticketing as the centre part of the strategic traffic management system to the real conditions and the final abolishment of strategic features of traffic management. The reasons for the differences between planning and the real situation are examined and lead to the conclusion, that only with sufficiently intensive communication and advertising, as well as with a simple and clear ticketing, higher visitation could have been achieved.
