Abstract

Parking systems are often designed to incorporate the maximum number of spaces and little consideration is given to the "level of service" of the facility. Quantitative measures of the performance of parking systems can aid the designer in determining the appropriateness of particular designs. These measures can be determined through the use of new improved survey methods, monitoring techniques and models. This paper discusses recent developments in these areas, highlighting the role new technology is having in revolutionising parking systems design, hence providing better parking systems for the user.
