In an analysis of accident involvement, the study is concerned with driver speed selection, driver age, sex and presence of peer passengers. The paper attempts to clarify the role played by peer passengers as there are said to be contradictory conclusions from previous studies. The results of the observational study are considered to both support and contradict previous research on the role of passengers on driver's speed choice. The fact that there are several variables in speed choice is thought to require care being needed when drawing conclusions about speed choice.
