Abstract

A study of accidents in urban areas of New Zealand has been made to identify the general pattern of accidents, to compare differences between areas, and to assess the potential for application of law cost engineering measures improve safety. The most critical features identified were the high incidence of accidents in darkness, especially in the vet, and the high incidence of accidents at junctions, especially crossroads.
