Abstract

The status of pavement design and management practice in Canada is described in this paper, as based on a comprehensive survey of provincial and territorial, federal and municipal agencies. Results of the survey were categorized in terms of general information, data bases, network level needs and priority programming, pavement materials and drainage, pavement design, construction, maintenance and pavement management system implementation. As well, high priority special issues as well as future opportunities were identified. The results of the survey indicated a high degree of technical activity and capability in all the categories, and they provided valuable input to developing the scope of a new Pavement Design and Management Guide.
