Abstract

The advancement of information technology has increased the accuracy and reduced the time needed to estimate the costs, benefits, and work time forconstructing and maintaining infrastructure. Roadways are one of the mostimportant infrastructures to benefit from this advanced technology. This paper condenses pavement maintenance methods into five main steps and details the current information technologies used in pavement maintenance methods. It presents a cost and benefit analysis of pavement maintenance methods by assessing the condition of a particular pavement and ranking and prioritizing projects for fund allocation using computer software to maintainthe roadway system. The objective of this analysis is to look at the effect of pavement maintenance methods, through the use of discussion and casestudies, in reducing cost and prolonging the service life of roadway pavement.
