Abstract

This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes over 70 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) on pedestrian accidents, their analysis and reconstruction, vulnerable pedestrian groups including the elderly, visually impaired and children, and pedestrian behaviours affecting safety, such as jaywalking and drunkenness. Accident prevention measures, including traffic speed control, vehicle redesign, location and marking of pedestrian crossings, and the use of reflective clothing to increase conspicuity are also covered. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1993 and 1996. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database. The previous edition, Current Topics in Transport CT 47, covered abstracts of articles added to the database from 1991-1993.
