Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 60 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on pedestrian accidents, their analysis and reconstruction, vulnerable pedestrian groups including the elderly and children and pedestrian behaviours such as drunkenness. Accident prevention measures, including traffic speed control, vehicle redesign, location and marking of pedestrian crossings and ways to increase conspicuity are also covered. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1997 and 1999. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database. The first previous edition, Current Topics in Transport CT 47, covered abstracts of articles added to the database from 1991-1993. The previous edition, Current Topics in Transport CT 47.1 (see C 7540 S), covered abstracts of articles added to the database from 1993-1996.
