Abstract
Pedestrian-Motor Vehicle Trauma (PMVT) is a common mechanism of injury, especially in urban areas. Pedestrian-motor vehicle trauma causes more than 8,000 deaths per year in the U.S. and is the leading cause of traumatic deaths in children. Health care costs and lost years of life and earning capacity are substantial. This study examines injury profiles of PMVT victims to assess the magnitude of the problem in an urban setting, to characterize the associated risk factors, and, in particular, to contrast the differences between patients in different age groups.
