Abstract

Interest in the Netherlands for the environmental quality of urban space is considerable. The general opinion is that that in residential areas the residential function should prevail. Problems remain in the transition zones between residential areas and traffic corridors. A new concept are the shopping yards. Here also all road users have the same rights. There are several possibilities for redesigning shopping yards and residential areas. The before and after studies have been planned, the first have been completed, the latter are being performed.
