Abstract

The objective of this study is an investigation of pedestrian protection ordinances, their enforcement and their effectiveness in accident reduction in urban areas. The research program described consisted of three task: 1) a review of the literature on pedestrian protection ordinances, 2) analysis of statistical data on the enforcement of pedestrian ordinances and their relationship to pedestrian accidents, 3) experiment designed to investigate the of an increase in the level of enforcement on pedestrian violation behaviour in crossing urban intersections.
