Pelican crossings : myth or miracle.

Abstract

The potential for Australian use of the Pelican crossing is reviewed. The crossings are studied in terms of their development, relative safety, effect on pedestrian and vehicle flow, influence on road user behaviour and suitability for elderly pedestrians and children. Proposed alterations to the method of operation of the crossings are reviewed.
