Abstract

A comprehensive road safety programme integrating, regardless of jurisdictions, all measures expected to contribute to a lasting improvement in road safety is given. The concept does not simply list the proposed actions but rather deals with the pros en cons of the individual topical issues concerning road safety. It has the following chapters: (1) Starting position and approaches; (2) Traffic enlightenment and education; (3) Licencing of drivers; (4) Traffic regulating and other standards; (5) Design and equipment standards for motor vehicles; (6) Traffic control; (7) Emergency services and (8) Research.
