Abstract

An analysis of the steering task and the available visual cues shows that heading angle change and lateral position change could be the cues, directly perceived and controlled in driving on a straight road. In an experiment using a signal detection paradigm, the thresholds for these cues were determined and the results of this experiment are discussed.
