Abstract

Means of counteracting the effects of speed misjudgements are outlined. They include head-up display speedometers, advisory speed signs, and speed control makings. A study also carried out of the effects of speed misjudgements on other judgements a driver has to make. Observations are reported on both car following behaviour and negotiation of gaps after speed changes have been made.
