Abstract

Preventive measures, such as coin-operated pumps, pay-in-advance policies, and the use of steel, spring-loaded cutter-bars in conjunctions with channelling the traffic past a single cashier-point have proved to be more effective. However, station owners and dealers have cited a disadvantage associated with these measures. They feel that people are less inclined to go to a station when such measures are used. The customers apparently resent the inconvenience and general atmosphere of mistrust surrounding the use of such precautionary measures.
