Abstract

The Connecticut Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, has installed a Tire-Sand Inertial Barrier System at the junction of Routes 2 and 17 in Glastonbury. This system utilizes scrap tires as containers for the sand mass and supports fabricated from 55-gallon (208.1 liter) paint drums. Design, fabrication and construction details are presented for the selected test site.
