Abstract

It is tried to place the Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection (PMVI) in a proper perspective as regards an entire vehicle safety program. Vehicle defects can be shown to be causation factors in about 6% of all accidents. The elimination of these defects is most dependent on the ability of the driver to detect them and his willingness to have them corrected. PMVI can help to detect and in conjunctions with mandatory re-inspection can force the have them repaired.
