Abstract

The Dutch Ministry of Traffic and Transport measures periodically by means of a traffic safety interview the behaviour, the attitudes, the expectations and opinions with regard to driving speeds and speed limits. Commuters have beginning to drive less fast on motorways with a limit of 120 km/h and on roads with a speed limit of 80 km/h. Private drivers, mainly drivers with a car with a top speed of 150 to 180 km/h, are speeding more on motorways since the last measurement. Two-third of all drivers is satisfied with the different speed limits on motorways, one-third should like the maximum speed to be enhanced. Only a small percentage of the drivers consider publicity campaigns as useful. They expect more effect from more police surveillance and enforcement.
