Abstract

Geometric congestion on motorway sections mostly starts in road sections where traffic streams diverge or converge. In this report the lane drop effects on the traffic stream have been investigated. Eight different types of lane drops have been investigated; outlining taper drop, ending of climbing lane, ending of overtaking lane, two lane entrance ramp, two lane exit ramp, exit ramp with lane drop, major diverge, and weaving section.
