Abstract

Several important steps since the work guided by a simple theory of achievement motivation began, are reviewed. It is now recognized that fear of success, particularly in woman must be added to hope of success and fear of failure, previously considered the only factors inherent whenever performance is undertaken with an expectation of evaluation in relation to some standard of excellence.
