The Dutch province of Noord-Brabant is working on a radical renewing of the public transport system. This paper outlines the background and the set-up of the public transport review. Key aspects of the review included a thorough analysis of the problems involved, formulating measures and translating strategy into a concrete renewal programme for the public transport sector. In particular, the focus is on the essence of the renewal programme: (1) to create a balance between supply and demand; (2) public transport becomes very accessible; (3) make people directly involved; and (4) enhance the quality of the image of public transport. Similarly, the process of change is described which has to be initiated and firmly established through the implementation of a package of measures. (A)
