In Dutch transport policy little attention has been paid to transportation by pipelines, notwithstanding its large volume. This transport has a good score on energy consumption, pollutants, risk, safety, and land use. Therefore, time has come for a more stimulating policy. This policy should consider adjustments of regulations and public-private partnership in projects. Pipelines as a mature transport mode should come within the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management area of responsibility. (A)
