Abstract

In this report various existing algorithms for estimating current travel times are pragmatically combined and enhanced, resulting in an algorithm which can produce estimates of current travel times under occurring practical circumstances. The main points of particular interest for the formulated algorithm are: (1) dealing with incomplete and incorrect measuring data; and (2) dealing with on and off ramps without measurement devices. It is emphasized that the algorithm has been formulated based on (traffic engineering) knowledge and experience. The considerable short period of time during which the algorithm could be formulated, excluded the possibility for performing additional research in order to find various choices to be made.
