Abstract

In this report the implemented travel time estimator has been validated using observations of factual travel times. A most suitable value of all parameters in the travel time estimator has been determined. The findings of the validations have resulted in a number of small modifications of the travel time estimator. These modifications involve the treatment of incomplete measurement data and the deduction of Dynamic Route Information Panel (DRIP) texts from the estimated travel times. The study has shown that the results of the travel time estimator, including the implemented modifications and the chosen parameter values, are in accordance with the observed travel times. Fluctuations in the observed travel times are nearly fully reproduced by the travel time estimator. These results give full confidence that the formulated travel time estimator can be used in the pilot with the DRIP travel time on the A13 motorway. A number of aspects of the travel time estimator require further refinement. (A) See also C 7432 (IRRD 888695).
