Abstract

Planning beyond the horizon : area based planning of infrastructure. In current planning practice, designing a road, usually means just that the road itself is starting point of the proces. It would be better though, to utalise the momentum to look at a wider area. That places the planning of the road in the perspective of the long term development of the region. Infrastructure strongly influences the spatial structure of an area and it will do so over a long period of time. But to plan in this situation one needs to plan beyond normal planning periods. Analysing underlying trends in sectoral planning policies and creating from these trends a probable integrated future-image can be a method to solve this planning problem. (Author/publisher)
