Abstract
With the growth of the cities and the all-round socio-economic development, the transport demand for the movement of both people and goods is increasing at considerable rates and therefore traffic and transportation studies in Metropolitan Areas call for greater attention. The paper discusses the problems that occur and the steps necessary towards solutions The studies of the planning and development of a road system for the Bombay Metropolitan Region being carried out by the Central Road Research Institute are also been quoted.
