Abstract

Planning criteria for off-street service areas are discussed and the characteristics of existing truck-freight service areas in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Texas are examined. Relations between design and operational aspects are considered. A mathematical estimate of arrival rates is used to support the application of this technique for predicting use of an off-street truck service area.
