Abstract

This paper describes the design of a range of noise barriers for use alomg the M62 Relief Road. Details are given of four types of 8m high barriers which were developed and tested for their efficiency. They were also assessed for visual impact and three final designs developed for presentation at the Public Consultation. These were a) a concrete planter barrier; b) a 60 degree earth slope with a fence on top; and c) a sloped barrier with a fence on top. The benefits of each are considered. Also used on the scheme were brick walls designed to blend in with the suburban nature of the area and brick and timber fences.
