Public transport plays a dominant role in Singapore's land transport scene. Public transport is generally not as attractive as private car transport. Therefore, there has to be deliberate planning on the part of the authorities and the companies to make it popular. In Singapore, this is done by making public transport more accessible, speeding up their movement and providing convenient facilities for commuters. All this has resulted in a marked shift in the modal split in favour of public transport over the last 15 years. (A)
