Abstract

This paper describes the reconstruction of a major expressway serving downtown Boston and the efforts made by the State transportation agency to minimize disruption to expressway users. Actions implemented include improved subway and bus service, expanded park- and- ride facilities, increased ridesharing capability, improved commuter boat operations, increased capacity on major parallel routes and extensive public information.
