Abstract

The purpose of this publication is to help in the design of works and subsequent preparation of site safety plans. It concentrates on the methods to provide a safe interface between road workers and live traffic. It is applicable to any work at static worksites on in-service motorways. Sections are provided on: a) pre-contract planning; b) control of traffic speed, including suggestions for physical speed reducing measures. A section is also provided which sets out a number of common problems and the solutions to them. A second section provides details of some of the accidents that the Health and Safety Executive have investigated.
